Pinterest

Ive found a new obsession, not like I need anymore but this one is full of inspiration. Its called Pinterest - if you haven`t heard of it you are missing out! Its a website where you can search different catagories whatever your interest maybe and then be presented with a bunch of random pictures, DIY tutorials, recipes etc. You can click on the picture and it will take you to the website, or you can pin it and add it to your boards. Your boards are made by you and organized however you like. You can have one strictly for home decore, or fashion. It saves the pictures and links so that way you dont have to write down the website, have a million pictures saved on to your computer and its easy to look at. There is so many awesome projects that I have found on there and am excited to try.

I suggest if you haven`t already opened up a new search tab you do so now. If you are ever having a creative block then this will def help inspire you

Much Love

So its been awhile since I have posted anything! I guess during summer I tend to loose track of time and become a bigger procrastinator than I already am. I am somewhat wishing it was fall so I could pull out my scarfs and sweaters, get back to the gym and doing more art projects to keep me busy. I recently have done a few small projects but nothing big. Just me, some good old spray paint and a really tacky lamp base.

Lately I have really been into vintage furniture recalimed treasures, even more so then before. I purchased a new desk from Lois Lane, which is an antique store here in kelowna. It was over priced for only being 40 years old, and for the condition it was in - but I fell in love. The paint was all cracked and chipping away and it looked like, and probably was, in someones shed or garden for many years. I thought about re-doing it but decided I liked all its flaws. So I am leaving it.

Now to the art project, so after I purchased my new favourite piece of furniture I decided my livingroom needed an overhaul. Right now its kinda a mish-mosh of random peoples things. Nothing matches so I decided to start small...A really ugly lamp. I dis-like very much metal. Metal lamps, glass tables etc. So in my obsessiveness I had to do something. I took a can of white matte spray paint for metal and sprayed the crap out of this thing. I didnt buy the lamp so it was free, if I messed up or it looked bad it was no expense out of my pocket.

Ugly lamp - Ok not so ugly but not my style

I dont tape anything off, I like to wing it lol

Voila! The end product

I went to homesense, bought a new Lamp Shade fo $16.00 - yes cheap I know! And Changed out the shade. Forest green is not my color. In total the lamp cost me a whole 20 bucks! It didnt turn out to shabby either. You can do alot with a can of spray paint and and some elbow grease.

I am a strong believer in imperfection, its all imperfectly perfect :)

Gray + Brown Wedding

After months of prep work my very good friend Kerry-Lee Gray married her prince. She wanted a non-traditional, vintage inspired wedding. It was to be unique and creative - just like her wonderful self. Everything was to be handmade, or what I like to refer to as ``Found``. Alot of the stuff which was used was either bought at garage sales, thrift stores, borrowed or made. Lace table cloths, mason jars and wild flowers were spread around the tables and yard while hay bales with vintage sheets were used for seating during the ceremony. To top it all off there was a home-made dance floor complete with twinkle lights.

From the hearts for `love notes` to the fascinator worn by the beautiful bride us girls were busy crafting. Here are a few pieces that I made and would like to share with you.

The first piece is a flag style card sign in which Kerry wanted to drape across her suitcase. We started with patterned paper. She chose a color which she liked so I cut out 5 triangles in the same size.

We hot glued a piece of twine to the back of the triangles to link them together - leaving a few inches at either end to tie it to the suitcase.

We chose different patterned papers for the letters and cut them out, then glued them to the triangles

Voila! The end product.

Here is another project I made for the beautiful bride.

Kerry wanted a fascinator but couldn't find one she liked. So we made it, she bought the feathers, a premade flower (which I took apart) and a broach a girlfriend found.

I had some left over fabric from a previous art project that matched Kerrys colors, So I cut a big round piece of fabric out and stitched the outside, eventually pulling it together to make it look like a bag. Sorry I don't have a picture. I then played with the fabric again to make this shape.

I had took the pre-made flower apart to get the lace pieces off and sewed them to the back of the hair piece

I used heavy duty glue to place the broach on. I chose a few feathers to add to the back of the fascinator, then gluing a piece of felt to the back to hide all the stitches and secure everything. I also hot glued a few snaps to the back so that way she could remove the bird cage veil with attached.

I do not have an end picture because I was a slacker and a huge procrastinator....but here is a lovely pic of the beautiful couple.

I will be adding more pictures of here beautiful wedding and smaller details....I am no photographer so I apologize in advance for them not being super fantastic.

Things my Fairy Godmother Should have Warned me About...

There is a quote that I thoroughly enjoy and it goes a little something like this "Forget the Prince, I was only in it for the shoes." Shoes are fantastic, any women will tell you that. She will also tell you that no matter how much you love them, there is always that pair, or pairs in my case, that you have a love/hate relationship with. They are the shoes that have a heel so high no sane woman would wear, or a pointed front in which you need to lotion up your feet just to slip into. I refer to these as Limo shoes. Shoes that are only ment to be seen getting out of your limo and walking down a very short walkway to your destination - not ones you would like to walk a few blocks in. Gorgeous but deadly. I swear I have a lesson I'm getting to.

This weekend I went to a good friends Stagette, filled with far to much food and lots of wonderful ladies. On saturday night we went out to a few bars and I made the mistake of wearing those "Limo shoes" that I borrowed from a friend, and may have not been my size :s. After about an hour and a half of walking 5 blocks then dancing my little heart out I was barley able to walk. I made the horrible mistake of choosing vanity over longevity. Yes beauty is pain, but when you start to walk like the hunchback of notre dame then it no longer is sexy. I had to trucker back to the truck, in the pouring rain, shoes in hand, bare feet on the dirty ground just to get my flip flops I had so sillily left in the truck. This is the moment in time I wish my fairy godmother would have intervened and told me to throw my flip flops in my purse because I would be risking massive trauma to my feet.

Ladies, please learn from my mistake and take it from me. Either bring a purse you can throw a pair of flip flops in or invest in the Dr. Sholls ballet flats, which come so conveniently packaged in a small case. They are a life saver when you feel like you wanna amputate your feet because they are in so much pain.

Here it is! My very first picture upload. This is a little piece of a portfolio I am putting together for my design portfolio/school application. It is still unfinished and in the process of being done.

I started out doing a thick coat of white oil paint - bad idea, oil takes a lifetime and a half to dry which means you have to be EXTREMELY patient, which I am not. While the white was on I went in and added the purple and blue detail. I really had no direction in mind I kind of just started to play.

After about a month of drying time I was finally able to play with the canvas a bit more. Right now I have a HUGE obsession with birds...not real or realistic looking birds, just silhouettes and drawings. I drew and cut out 2 birds. One from a piece of paper I had collected over the years (I tend to buy things, be it paper or craft materials that I like -even if I have no use for them at the time) the other from an old book I got for free from a garage sale - garage sales are the best place to find things to re-purpose or in my words "destroy". Everything is inexpensive and you can barter for lower prices.

I will be adding a sentence of some sort to the painting, I'm thinking something along the lines of "Breathe deeply, Live Freely, Love Sweetly" all in black paint but stamped on so it doesn't look perfect.

As soon as I have added something else to the painting I will post a new pic. Happy creating everyone <3

Are you open?

How open are you willing to be today? How much fear will you face to be the most authentic and truthful version of yourself? Your moment is now. Right now. Not when you have your proverbial - pardon my french, shit together, nor when you have the money/house/body/soul mate - NOW. Why waste time, own it. Love yourself enough to be here in this moment and rock it.

Welcome to my blog! This is the very first post of hopefully many. I am an obsessive freak when it comes to crafts, art and design. I feel as if I have A.D.D when it comes to creating or being in an art/house wares store. This blog will help me to share all of my art projects, whether I like them or hate them, any design ideas or creative things I come upon as well as any goodies I might try to make. Please enjoy!
